Volume 3 Issue 4 - August 2014

2014 Mrs. America Send-off is in the books!

Since 2003, the Nebraska tradition has been to provide a send-off to Mrs. America for our reigning queen. Each year it is hosted by two former Mrs. Nebraska's; Debbie Anstine and Susan Meyerle. On July 20th, eight former Mrs. Nebraska's were in attendance at this year’s event which included Rita Rocker (1987), Terri  Krolikowski (1988), Tosca Lee (1996), Debbie Anstine (1998), Dr. Susan Meyerle (2004), Jen Bradley (2006), Jen Hart (2009), and Kim Daniels (2012).  The reigning Mrs. Nebraska-Amanda Reinert modeled her national competition evening gown, interview suit, and state costume which all look stunning on her.

Words of advise, and support, were shared with Amanda by each person in attendance. Mr. Nebraska 2004-Jerry Meyerle, did not disappoint by preparing another wonderful spread of amazing hors-d'oeuvres. Dessert was a delicious raspberry cake complete with fondant sash and topped with a crown created by one of Susan’s friends.  Mrs. Nebraska will depart for the Mrs. America competition in Tucson AZ on August 22nd and return on August 29th. Interviews will be held on August 26th, with preliminaries taking place on Wednesday, August 27th and finals on Friday, August 29th, and stream live online.  Directors, Jen Bradley and Jen Hart, say Amanda is well prepared and ready to go. Good luck Amanda as you compete for the title of Mrs. America! We are proud to call you our “sister” and know you will represent us well!

Dr. Susan Meyerle has published three books to date.  Her first book was published internationally.  The second two were published in the States. Those two books are entitled:

• "The Power of Expectations: Creating the life you desire"

• "Mastering the Art of Success with Jack Canfield, Les Brown, and Mark Victor Hansen

Both are available through her website. Susan’s current project is, "10,000 Good-Byes", which is a reflection of her mother's struggle with Alzheimer's. As many know, Susan’s mother lived for over twenty years with Alzheimer's, the last
11 years in a nursing home. She passed away early this summer. This book reflects the challenges of saying goodbye to someone with memory loss through various stages. Its a poignant book filled with reflections of how to go on living when a loved one is dying.

Currently Susan is doing research for another book which is focused on the spiritual struggles we experience as we attempt to discern God's plan for our lives.  Conceptualized in the style of C.S. Lewis', "The Screwtape Letters", the book
encourages us to question whether what we most desire is really Thy will or our will.  This project is in the early stages, and given Susan’s busy travel schedule this fall, will likely not be available for several months.
