Deb teaches physical education at Lincoln East High School.  She is listed in 1998 and 2002 "Who's Who Among American Teachers",  is the recipient of the 1993 Nebraska Dance Educator of the Year award and is the 1999 Nebraska Secondary Physical Education Teacher of the Year.   Since her reign, Deb has served on the Executive Board and as choreographer for the Mrs. Nebraska Pageant.  Deb is a professional model as well as Chairman of the Health, Physical Education and Driver's Education Department at Lincoln East High School.  Deb, an avid golfer, has two adult children, Megan and Jason, daughter-in-law, Anne, and son-in-law Michael.  She is married to Dick Essex, an engineer for Burlington Northern Sante Fe.
